Crochet Catnip Balls

This my most popular creation yet. Well, in a cat’s opinion. I can’t even finish these toys before my cat is trying to play with it. I have to hide the balls that I make to sell because my cat would try to play with all of them. Every cat I give them to goes crazy for these. The instructions are so simple, and quick to memorize. The balls themselves are very fast to make.

I usually use size 4.00 or 5.00 mm hook and worsted weight wool. You can use whatever, as long as there are no holes where the stuffing can fall out. You will also need catnip and a bell, if your cat likes bells. Last, you will need a yarn needle.

Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.

Rnd 3: 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next sc. Repeat around.

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each sc around.

Rnd 5: 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc tog. Repeat around.

Rnd 6: 2 sc tog 4 times. Add catnip. Add stuffing. Add bell if you are using one. Sc 2 tog 2 more times.

Fasten off, leave tail. Add a pinch more catnip. Weave tail through last row of sc, pull closed. Knot, hide tail in ball. Or, you can leave a really long tail so you can swing the ball around for your kitty.
