Knit Reversible Hunting Hats on the Addi Express Kingsize, in Sizes for the Whole Family

Pin

I’ve been so busy with my Addi lately that I haven’t been posting. So I have an Addi pattern to share with you today, and below, I have the hand knitting instructions as well. The adult hat fits a 22″ head. I don’t hunt myself, but most of my family do and a lot of people just love the camouflage look anyway. So that’s how I was inspired to make these.

Addi Materials:

  • Addi Express Kingsize
  • Bernat Premium in Orange
  • Red Heart Super Saver in Camouflage
  • Yarn needle

Addi Instructions Adult (Child, Baby):

  1. Cast on with Orange
  2. Knit 60 rounds (48, 38)
  3. Switch to Camouage
  4. Knit another 60 rounds (48, 38)
  5. Cast off
  6. Pull yarn tails tight on both ends of tube
  7. Knot and secure tails
  8. Place the Orange half inside the Camouflage side and pull the Orange tail to the Camouflage side, through the middle of the hat, where you pulled the tube closed.
  9. Tie the two tails together tightly and tuck between the two layers.
  10. Fold up the brim and you’re done!

Hand Knit Materials

  • Circular needles size 6.00 mm or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Bernat Premium in Orange
  • Red Heart Super Saver in Camouflage
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 12 stitches and 26 rows of stockinette should give you a 5″ x 5″ square

Hand Knit Instructions Adult (Child, Baby):

  1. Cast on 46 sts in Orange
  2. Switch the first and last sts so you have a connected circle
  3. Knit 60 (48, 38) rows [should be 12 (10, 8) inches long]
  4. Switch to Camouflage
  5. Knit 60 rows again [Should be an additional 12 (10, 8) inches long for 24 (20, 16) inches]
  6. Cast off, you should have a big tube.
  7. Close both the Orange and Camouflage ends of the tube
  8. Knot and secure tails
  9. Place the Orange half inside the Camouflage side and pull the Orange tail to the Camouflage side, through the middle of the hat, where you pulled the tube closed.
  10. Tie the two tails together tightly and tuck between the two layers.
  11. Fold up the brim and you’re done!

You can make these reversible hats in any colours or even just one colour or with stripes, anything, whatever you can think of. If you are hand knitting you can try ribbing around the middle of the tube, instead of stockinette, that way you would have a ribbed brim. I haven’t actually tried hand knitting these, so leave a comment to let me know if it works or not if you try it out. If you try it out leave pictures in the comments! I would love to see the combinations other people come up with.

P.S. If my instructions do not make sense let me know that, too. I can upload pictures of the process and I’ll clarify any strange bits.

      1. If so you can thread a large darning needle with the wool that you are using, about 24″. Slip each stitch off your knitting needle into the darning needle and onto your piece of wool, until all the stitches are off the needle. Then you can pull the wool like a drawstring and knot the top of the hat closed. For the end you started with, thread a darning needle with 24″ of wool again and pick up the stitches all the way around the tube, then pull tight and knot the wool.
