Running Tights

Today after work I made my own running tights. They took three hours to make, maybe a new record for me. I had bought a pattern last year and this is my second time using it. I made an awesome pair before but spilled red wine on them. In the past I tried to save money (be cheap) by finding free patterns online for leggings. However, I learned the hard way that you really can’t run in leggings. No matter what I try running always makes the crotch slide down, not the waist, but the crotch part. So bad for running.

This is my first and only pattern I have bought online but I was sick of making leggings that weren’t working and running tights are so expensive, anywhere from $50-$100+. This pattern is 12.99 by mail or 11.99 to download. I was going to get the paper pattern, and wait for it to come in the mail and everything, but when I seen the PDF version I knew right away I had to get that instead. These tights have passed my running test: They do not fall down.

The first tights I made using a flatlock stitch on my serger. That didn’t work so great though because the seams kept coming apart and there are holes in my pants now. So this time I basted each seam and then did a regular overlock stitch over every seam as I was going. I expect this will prevent holes forming. There are seams though, which might bother me while I’m running but I don’t think it will actually be a problem.

If you would like to make your own running tights I really recommend this pattern. It’s by Jalie. I had never heard of them before this, but I found the running tights pattern on Pinterest and it led me to them. Here’s the link if you want to check them out 🙂
